Don’t Rush
It’s been a minute, but hello out there. Life has been coming at me fast, and now especially life is coming at us all - hard and fast. As we’ve all been quarantined within our homes these several weeks due to COVID-19, aka The Rona, we are coping and trying to maintain with this, hopefully temporary, new normal. Firstly, for you reading this, I pray that you and your families are well and that you are indeed staying home.
So, I’m just going to jump right into it. I have exciting news. Are you ready?!
I’m going back to grad school! Well, I’m in grad school. Woop, woop! I am working towards a Masters in Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Drexel University. Ten years later, after receiving my Bachelors from West Chester University, I finally dove headfirst to enroll in to graduate school. If we’re friends on Facebook, I broke this news last month however wanted to share the news with the rest of the interwebs. It’s pretty much a big deal for me. I just finished my first week online and I couldn't be any more happier.
I’ve talked about going back to school for years and years, but just felt it was never the right time for me (well, what a time now!). I’m the type of person that doesn’t like to take on a new task if I feel I cannot fully commit 100% of my time and effort into it. However, obtaining a Master’s degree is a goal of mine, so I put on my big girl panties and applied.
It’s funny because the same week that I was getting my application materials together, my best friend made that announcement that she was also going for her Master’s. I was waiting before I told anyone until I was accepted but felt that was the confirmation to go forth with faith. God was in the neighborhood.
Now I know you’re looking at the title wondering if I’m telling you to not rush and take ten years to initiate accomplishing that goal you have written down in your journal - well, no ma'am or sir. I do, however want to share a few tidbits with you surrounding the topic of not rushing.
As we’ve been glued to our phones practically 24/7, I’m sure you’ve seen the #DontRushChallenge all across social media; that is the inspiration behind this here blog post. Here are a few takeaways that stemmed from my situation that I hope would encourage you [insert your situation here].
Learn to be more gentle on yourself - Don’t beat yourself up for taking longer than you planned or hoped to accomplish something your heart is set on. I had to reflect on my life over the course of those ten years and for some years it wasn’t a walk in the park, to say the least. By God’s grace I made it on the other side of trauma and I’m still standing. Extend more grace to yourself.
What’s meant for you, really is for you - Our lives are predestined by God. What will be mine, will be mine in due time, and that’s on period. I try not to inundate myself with worrying of the intricacies of life. If it’s in God’s Will, it will happen. Philippians 4:6 says,” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”. (NIV)
It’s never too late - If God made a promise to you, it will come to fruition when he says so. We can sometimes put ourselves on a restricted timeline of when we think success should happen. No time is wasted. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other; it will all work out. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” (KJV)
When I was led to start school this Spring I had no idea it would be in the midst of a global pandemic. In an odd way, I’m grateful for this extra time at home so that I can 100% focus while I’m in my first quarter; because chile this work also came at me fast! Lol.
Psalms 37:4 - Delight yourself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Again, I hope you are encouraged in some way. What are some of your desires or what are some goals you would like to set out to accomplish one day? I’d love to hear.
